My Autumn Leaves Cake

My Toastmasters Club asked me to bring a cake for tonight's meeting.  I've become famous with my club for my cakes.  Back when I was taking my Wilton Cake Decorating Courses I would sometimes bring my class projects, or a practice cake, to a meeting.  This really caught on with all the members of my club, so nowadays they ask me to bring a cake for special meetings, which I'm more than happy to do.  I'm always coming up with new ideas for cakes, but the problem is that if I just baked them for myself I'd be as big as a house, so this arrangement is a win-win for all of us.

Since we're now into September I decided to make an autumn leaves cake.  Very simple to do.  It's a classic yellow cake with a raspberry filling, topped with almond flavored butter cream icing and gum paste leaves.  Gum paste can be a little tricky to work with since it's very sticky, but I find that kneeding in corn starch cuts down on the stickyness without changing the flavor.

Hopefully they will like it.  If not oh well.  Meantime I've got another cake for my portfolio.
